08 Aug Be Happy Breathe Easy
Be Happy Yoga & Salt Cave is a luxurious studio with affordable prices that opened in May of 2016. The approximately 2,300 – square-foot facility located in the Kroger shopping center at the corner of Campbell Lane and Nashville Rd., at 2710 Nashville Rd., Suite 104, is the only salt cave in Bowling Green.
What exactly is a salt cave? Our salt cave is a man-made room filled with six tons of pure Himalayan salt – on the floors, walls and into the ceiling. During a salt session, also known as a halotherapy session, a generator filled with pharmaceutical grade salt and minerals fills the room with a fine mist. There are ten recliners in the cave and it is handicapped accessible. Salt caves originated in Europe after discovering that salt miners in Poland were healthier than other people in the area. Hospital beds were put in the caves in the early 1900’s for treatment of respiratory illnesses. Most notable is that salt caves are reimbursable by medical insurance in European countries. Our salt cave also incorporates color therapy which has been found to help with anxiety and depression.
What does the salt cave do for me? There are multiple benefits of halotherapy which include the respiratory system, skin conditions, stress reduction, improved sleep and wellness. We’ll be focusing on these various benefits in the next months in SOKY so stay tuned. The combination of the salt and minerals that are naturally inhaled through regular breathing help to clear the nasal passageways leading to improved breathing. Do you recall how great you feel when you’ve breathed in that great salt air at the beach? That’s how you feel after a salt session!
What happens during a salt session? The client reclines in a comfortable chair with a blanket draped over them. We take pride in tucking in our clients with great care! Neck rolls are available as well. (No special clothing required – wear whatever clothes you’re wearing that day – it’s about 68-70 degrees and low humidity). It’s a quiet environment, so no talking or cell phones allowed, and we have soft music playing to enhance the relaxation experience. Sessions are 45 minutes and start on the hour so arrive about 5-10 minutes before your session begins to get settled. Some people fall asleep and take a nap, some meditate and some just rest and enjoy the quiet ambiance.
Strapped for time? We also offer lunch time sessions, Monday – Friday that are 25-minute sessions between 11 am and 12:30 pm in order to have a nice midday getaway.
Come check us out! Please come in – we’ll give you a tour any time. We’re open Monday – Saturday from 10 am – 6 pm for salt sessions and on Sunday from 1 pm – 6 pm. We don’t open the salt cave doors after a session has started, but if you’ll arrive a few minutes before the hour, we’ll be more than happy to give you a glimpse into our little haven of rest and renewal.
Salt cave therapy has been widely used in Europe for many years and Bowling Green is on the cutting edge of halotherapy with less than 100 salt caves in the U.S.
